We are looking for volunteers!

Volunteers are the heart of the RNLI and make up the vast majority of our people. They are ordinary people who do extraordinary things and without them we couldn’t save lives at sea.

2024 proved to be another busy year for Plymouth Lifeboat station. Our volunteer crew have launched on service 160 times, carried out training every other Sunday and Wednesday, celebrated the RNLI’s 200th Birthday and attended numerous public engagements throughout the year.

We also hosted the first South West Women in SAR event. Halfway through the event, the station was tasked by the Coastguard to respond to a motor vessel with engine issues, so an all-female crew made up of qualified volunteers from Plymouth, Weymouth, Teignmouth and Lyme Regis responded on the Inshore Lifeboat. This was the first time an operational shout in the South West has been conducted by an all-female crew in the charity’s history.
